Explore rural Nasu through a lens of SHIZEN, humans and nature in harmony
Explore Nasu’s countryside by e-bike and on foot, and relax in an elegant hot-spring ryokan blending refined comfort with rural charm.
On Day 1, travel by Shinkansen from Tokyo and meet your local guide before enjoying a riverside lunch featuring freshly grilled river fish. In the afternoon, take a peaceful walk to Unganji, an 800-year-old Zen temple known for its striking vermilion bridge, followed by a visit to an organic sake brewery for a guided tour and tasting. Check into your ryokan for a relaxing soak in the onsen and a seasonal dinner.
Day 2 begins after breakfast with a guided e-bike ride through Nasu’s rural countryside, passing historic villages, terraced rice fields, a hidden bamboo forest, and ancient willow trees. Enjoy a farmhouse lunch prepared with local, seasonal ingredients. In the afternoon, guests may opt to visit a young local artisan to experience bamboo grass craft before returning to the ryokan for another restful evening.
On Day 3, after breakfast, set out for Mt. Nasu, an active volcano offering hiking options suited to different activity levels. Choose between a scenic two-hour hike, a gentler walk using the ropeway, or an easy stroll through nearby marshland. In autumn, the landscape is alive with vivid seasonal colours. After descending by ropeway, enjoy lunch at a secluded forest bakery before returning to Nasu-shiobara Station for the Shinkansen journey back.
