Experience traditional Kintsugi by repairing chipped or cracked pottery using synthetic lacquer. Choose one Usuki-yaki vessel for the session and take your restored piece home on the same day.

Experience Description

Located at Usuki Sarayama—a facility run by Hiroyuki Usami, who revived the phantom Usuki-yaki pottery from the late Edo period—this workshop features a gallery, café, and baked sweets shop alongside the studio. Participants select a piece of Usuki-yaki ceramic and learn the art of Kintsugi repair. Visitors can also view the pottery workshop through the windows without a reservation. Please Note: This activity is a simplified Kintsugi workshop using "Shin-Urushi" (synthetic lacquer). Please note that this process differs from the traditional method, which uses natural Urushi lacquer and requires several days/weeks to fully dry and complete.
