Mr. Tezuka, the owner and master artisan of Chikiriya Tezuka Maemon Urushi Store, is dedicated to making traditional Kiso lacquerware more accessible to everyone. Driven by his desire to share its unique charm, he hosts beginner-friendly hands-on painting workshops suitable for both adults and children.
Under his direct guidance, participants can create original designs on chopsticks or plates using colored lacquer, gold and silver powders, and traditional *makie* fine brushes. Protective aprons and gloves are provided for safety. Finished pieces are dried and shipped in about 2 weeks, making for a memorable, custom-made keepsake from your travels.
