On this tour, we will visit a production area of Japanese green tea in the Asamiya district, southern Shiga. We will learn about Japanese tea from local women who are in the tea business or work as tea farmers. Guests can share in activities such as picking & roasting the leaves and tea tasting, from which you can learn the subtle details about different teas appropriate to the season and weather. At lunchtime, join the host in creating dishes using tea leaves. While learning about Japanese dining etiquette, relish a special moment dedicated entirely to tea.
Guided walk through high-altitude tea plantations and a countryside stroll. Visit to Senzen-ji Temple (site where Asamiya tea originates). Lunch featuring local dishes cooked with tea leaves. Japanese tea tasting and hands-on Hojicha (roasted green tea) roasting. Visit to Sansho Shrine.
