About
Built in 1537, Inuyama Castle is Japan’s oldest surviving wooden castle, standing on a hill above the Kiso River. It was the final stronghold sought by Oda Nobunaga in his campaign to unify Owari Province, and later fell to both Toyotomi Hideyoshi and Tokugawa Ieyasu.
The surrounding castle town retains its historic charm, with traditional buildings now home to shops, cafés, and museums. Just 30 minutes from Nagoya by train, Inuyama is an ideal destination for travelers seeking a taste of historic Japan without venturing far from the city.
