Experience Description
Discover Inuyama ware, a distinctive pottery style dating back to the Edo period, developed under local lord patronage with elegant nature-inspired designs. Togei Goto, a family-run studio founded as Goto Kiln in 1872, is dedicated to preserving this craft. Both father and son welcome visitors for a 90-minute hands-on experience, where you can observe master artisans at work, see raw clay from nearby hills, and try painting traditional pottery. Learn about Inuyama Pottery's history, which nearly vanished but was revived by Inuyama Castle's lord. Visitors will tour the kiln and workshop before engaging in painting plates, cups, teacups, and rice bowls made by the Goto family's fourth and fifth generations, using four different overglaze colors. The studio offers a wonderful atmosphere, with the charismatic father sharing his passion for the art.
