Experience Description
Founded in 1909, Shimatani Syouryu has specialized in crafting orin singing bowls for Buddhist temples for over a century. Your session begins with an introduction to the orin, exploring their soothing vibrations and the meticulous skill needed for their creation. Under the guidance of Yoshinori Shimatani, a fourth-generation artisan, you will then craft your own suzugami tin plate. Inspired by origami and using the same hammering techniques as the Buddhist singing bowls, suzugami can be endlessly reshaped. Choose from Japanese weather patterns like samidare (rain) or kazahana (snowflakes) and bring your design to life, taking home a unique piece of Japanese art that carries the story of this centuries-old tradition.
